This IDC Financial Insights report presents our top 10 predictions for Asia/Pacific banking, which will serve to complement the annual top 10 strategic IT initiatives in 2012. While acknowledging an escalating crisis in the Western markets and an increasingly pervasive sense of gloom in the industry as a whole, this report points out several positive trends that underscore how Asia/Pacific banks need to be appraised in a different, more hopeful light. Michael Araneta, associate consulting and research director at IDC Financial Insights Asia/Pacific, remarks, "Most Asia/Pacific banks have built sufficient liquidity, enough to sustain a downturn or to pass even more stringent regulatory capital requirements. On the other hand, while IT spending growth will be lower compared with previous years, there is still good upside for IT vendors that know how to look for high-priority areas or certain segments of the industry that are poised to invest heavily in technology."
