David Potterton Overview
This IDC Financial Insights Perspective recaps the major discussion points from the October 2011 FST Summit held in Scottsdale, Arizona, and provides guidance to industry business and technology executives for 2012. Major themes from the event included transformation in financial services, social media, technology efficiency, big data, and infrastructure. As we come to the end of 2011, the financial services industry continues to be challenged by a number of factors including regulatory changes, liquidity and debt exposures, revenue replacement, and constant cost pressure. These issues were most recently brought out and discussed by IT executives across financial services during the most recent FST Summit. As financial institutions look toward 2012, additional discussions were held on the challenges of finding the right applications for "big" data technologies, social media, the fading role of the CIO, and legacy infrastructure.
