Overview

This IDC Financial Insights report tracks the number of new-named core banking deals for 2009 in North America and provides insight to this core banking environment. As the economic crisis slowly eases, we see a dichotomy among North American banks. Canadian banks are actively planning and implementing large core transformation projects, while U.S. banks are cautiously exploring their options.

Karen Massey, senior research analyst, U.S. Consumer Banking and Credit, states, "The number of core banking deals has declined from 2008 to 2009 as financial institutions look to rein in costs and fewer de novos emerged. However, U.S. banks are warned not to ignore the core modernization of their international peers with sights set to U.S. expansion."
