Michael Araneta is an Associate Consulting and Research Director for IDC Financial Insights Asia/Pacific. Michael leads the IT Benchmarking Practice which gives insights into the key technology investments of financial services institutions across the region. Michael also co-manages the Banking Advisory Services practice covering retail banking issues.
Together with IDC Financial Insights' elite team of analysts, Michael regularly engages with the key decision makers in Asia's top financial services institutions. In his consulting role, he works closely with IDC’s research teams and global account managers on custom research and business intelligence assignments. Michael is also responsible for the regional go-to-market strategies of both financial institutions and financial technology vendors.
Michael's recent work has proven that he is the go-to analyst for a broad range of strategic and tactical issues in the Asia/Pacific banking landscape. To date, Michael has consulted clients on a range of topical issues including mergers and acquisitions of banks in the region, banking opportunities amid the financial crisis, product innovation strategies, Generation Y Banking, customer centricity and CRM initiatives, vendor product portfolio positioning, and bank channel effectiveness.
Michael regularly presents to senior-level banking practitioners in briefings around the region and is quoted frequently in various international media.
Michael has a Bachelor in Quantitative Economics (first class honours) from the University of Asia and the Pacific in Manila. He holds a Master in International Studies degree from the National University of Singapore.
